Sound Leisure exports around 80% of all the Classic Jukeboxes it builds in an average year, to over 40 countries world-wide. Around 87% of all the Classic Jukeboxes manufactured are purchased by customers for their own homes, with the remaining jukeboxes used in locations such as bars, clubs, restaurants, hotels, company headquarters and retail outlets.
Sound Leisure have been ‘manufacturing memories’ in the United Kingdom since 1978.
Initially founded by inventor and electrical engineer Alan Black in 1978, the company remains owned and run by Alan and his family making it the oldest, single-ownership jukebox company anywhere in the world.
From its foundation to the present day, Sound Leisure has remained a brave and forward-thinking organisation. From becoming the first British company to design, develop and build a commercially viable and widely adopted jukebox platform in the 1970’s, we went on to pioneer the early development of digitised music platforms in the 1980’s and were responsible for the reintroduction of vinyl jukeboxes in 2016. We remain a globally recognised and respected leader in our sector with countless patents and industry firsts to our name.
Our consistent success and growth, over a 40 year period which saw the demise of many long established jukebox manufacturers such as Seeburg and Wurlitzer, is based on our ongoing commitment to the development of better products and technologies and our unfading focus on high quality British manufacturing.
We are proud of our family routes, our amazing team and of all we have achieved to date, but we still have some big ambitions. Our products are simply the best in the world and each jukebox is an entirely unique, hand-built labour of love. Where customers choose to purchase a Sound Leisure product, they join our family; a group of likeminded individuals who understand and appreciate the energy, dedication and care that goes into the production of every single jukebox.

We have built our reputation and business carefully and purposefully over many years and we remain obsessive about quality and the production process. Our success to date is entirely based on the innovative nature of our products and the calibre of their design and production.
Our factory is a place of wonder and we are passionate about UK manufacturing! Take a tour and you can literally see the entire jukebox manufacturing process in one location, from raw wood entering one end of the building to the final masterpieces leaving the other. To ensure quality is built into every component, we complete as much of the production process as is humanly possible in-house, right down to manufacturing our own printed circuit boards.
We also continue to hand-build every single jukebox in our UK factory which enables us to continually develop the skills and capabilities of our amazing British workforce, mixing the expert knowledge and guidance of our experienced senior management team with the passion and energy from new apprentices and recruits.

Over our 40+ year history we have been fortunate to win many awards. In 2016 Sound Leisure was named as one of the top 100 manufacturers in the UK, as judged by a panel of leading industry experts alongside companies such as McLaren Automotive, Airbus and BAE Systems. We were awarded the Yorkshire Post ‘Exporter of the Year’ award in 2019 and the highly prestigious ‘Manufacturing Guild Mark’ in 2020, which is only bestowed on companies which demonstrate high standards across seven assessment criteria including design, product development, manufacturing capability, sustainability and financial stability.
We love the past, but always look to the future. Our jukeboxes reflect the iconic retro styling of the original 1940s and 50s models but we give them a contemporary twist to ensure they fit seamlessly into modern homes.
We offer the widest range of jukebox models of any manufacturer and you can then select from a diverse range of finishes, technologies, add-ons and customisations to truly build your dream machine. We also offer the only ‘Custom Shop’ jukebox design & manufacturing service in the world, producing unique, one-off jukeboxes built to clients’ specific requirements. So, whether you want a simple customised name-plate or an entirely bespoke jukebox design, if you can dream it, we can build it.

Sound Leisure is the only manufacturer in the world producing Classic Jukeboxes for all the major music formats including CD, vinyl 45, vinyl LP and Digital. We also still provide support and spare parts for many of the jukebox technologies we have manufactured over the last 4 decades.
We produce the simplest and most effective Classic Jukebox technology anywhere in the world. To do this we utilise state-of-the-art, proprietary technology, which is owned, designed, developed and manufactured in-house by our talented team of engineers and only available on Sound Leisure products. It’s only by retaining this level of control we are able to ensure a customer experience which is without compromise.
Over the decades, Sound Leisure has developed dozens of commercial jukebox technology platforms and associated equipment. From 7” vinyl mechanisms in the late 1970’s, CD solutions in the early 1980’s and digital jukebox platforms in the late 1990, we’ve filled venues across the world with music for over 40 years and produced hundreds of thousands of jukeboxes. While our manufacturing focus now sits entirely with Classic Jukeboxes, it’s reassuring to know every technology we developed and every jukebox we build stands of the shoulders of four decades of knowledge, experience and expertise.

Sound Leisure demonstrated the first ever Digital Jukebox all the way back in 1980, long before the term MP3 or iPod had been invented! The Jukebox was displayed at a UK trade show, where it caused quite a stir! In fact people were so amazed and confused many ‘informed’ industry experts insisted it was a hoax and that a standard CD mechanism was hidden somewhere offstage playing the music.

Sound Leisure passionately rejects the mass production, throw away nature of modern manufacturing. Every jukebox is hand-built with passion, focus, care and expertise, using skills passed down through generations of our workforce. This results in iconic jukebox designs that feel authentic, yet contemporary, crafted from the highest quality components and materials to last a generation.
We understand we have a duty of care to the environment and society – We work with charities and organisations that aim to improve and care for our community and planet. From 2021 we are partnering with the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust to plant a tree for every Classic Jukebox manufactured, joining thousands of other companies and individuals working to secure the future of the UK’s ancient woodland.
Hand in hand with this pledge, we recommit to the manufacture of products that will last a generation, just like the trees we’re planting on behalf of our customers.
