When a leading cosmetic brand approached Sound Leisure to create two bespoke jukeboxes, one for their headquarters in Paris and another for their New York City store, the brief centered on one key idea: complete visual integration.

The jukeboxes needed to feel less like a standalone product and more like a part of the space itself. Every finish, texture, and material detail had to align precisely with the carefully curated interiors of each location.

One of the project’s most technically demanding elements was the exterior finish. Although constructed from wood, the cabinetry needed to visually replicate the appearance of metal in order to complement the contemporary interior design. Achieving this effect required extensive experimentation using different finishing techniques, surface treatments, and lighting interaction to ensure the final result matched the surrounding fixtures and materials seamlessly.

The outcome was a pair of jukeboxes that blended naturally into their environments while still retaining the unmistakable presence and nostalgia associated with classic music machines.

Beyond aesthetics, the project also introduced a modern interpretation of the traditional jukebox experience through Sound Leisure’s Virtual Vinyl system.

The brand wanted the tactile experience and visual appeal of vinyl records without the limitations of a fixed physical music collection. Virtual Vinyl allowed the spaces to retain the familiar interaction of browsing and selecting records while giving teams the flexibility to instantly update playlists, introduce seasonal music selections, and adapt the atmosphere for campaigns, launches, or events.

This combination of heritage styling and modern functionality created a unique customer experience, balancing nostalgia with the evolving needs of contemporary luxury retail and hospitality spaces.

Installed in the brand’s headquarters and New York store, the jukeboxes now serve as both functional music systems and statement design pieces, demonstrating how traditional craftsmanship can be reimagined for modern luxury environments.
