Jackie Brenston – “Rocket 88.” 45 rpm vinyl single
£11.20
The arguments over what was the first ever true ‘Rock’n’Roll’ record can never be proven. Even in the 1930’s and 1940’s, there were many examples of striding swing and 12-bar blues that could have easily influenced the direction of this genre of music.
Full Product Description
However, there is a consensus of opinion that if just one record could claim to be accepted as the first, it would be ‘Rocket 88’ released in 1951, and credited to Jackie Brenston & his Delta Cats. Written and performed by a young Ike Turner’s band with the vocals credited to the saxophone player, this record reached number one in the still segregated R&B charts of that year. Incidentally, to square the circle, it was produced by Sam Phillips who of course, produced the earliest Elvis Presley records 4 years later.
When Sound Leisure began production of a 1950’s design jukebox, we decided to pay homage by naming this model after this cultural landmark.
We have now managed to secure a very limited stock of this record on a 45 rpm re-press single. This is available on a first-come, first served basis!
