Six months ago, we were approached by the team at Bradford 2025 – UK City of Culture with an intriguing challenge. Renowned U.S. artist Ann Hamilton was developing a large-scale installation for her exhibition We Will Sing, set to open in May at Salts Mill in Saltaire, and needed a bespoke solution: turntables that could either restart automatically after a record finished or play again after a short delay.
Naturally, we said yes.
Last night, we had the privilege of attending the opening, and it was incredible to see the response to the work.
We Will Sing is a powerful piece—an installation of memory and imagination, rooted in the textile history of Salts Mill. Voices, song, and printed word unfold within a material landscape of raw and woven wool, sourced from local mills. We were honoured to be asked to contribute.
Our six custom vinyl LP turntables were built into original stillages found in the mill, becoming part of the structure and rhythm of the space. The whole project was a joy to be part of, and working with the Bradford 2025 team was a real pleasure.
We wish them all the best with the exhibition and can’t wait to return.
